Lethal injection, electrocution, hanging, firing squad, gas chamber - by those methods about 6.000 persons were executed only in 2006. Is death penalty the ultimate cruel, inhuman and shameful punishment or the affective way to prevent the crime?

(Anti) Death Penalty
- Art of the Dead
and the Living
This ever current discussion became the focus of the project “(Anti) Death Penalty - Art of the Dead and the Living” designed by Gallery Gabrichidze, Brussels.
The debate over death penalty is as old as the elaboration of jurisdiction and remains provocative now days. In our gallery this will be done through a one-month exhibition presenting artwork made in by death row inmates but also by opponents and supporters of death penalty. The United States, as the role model of democracy, still entails the option of legal death in the state law.
However, death row inmates are also granted the right of free speech

by US Constitution. Many choose to use forms of communication, like internet, to bring their message outside the prison walls. Alongside common communication tools death row inmates often use art to express their view on capital punishment and convey massage to the society. The project “(Anti) Death Penalty - Art of the Dead and the Living” aims put this “insider view” into context of the outside world discussion about death penalty. We are intended to ask provocative questions and reveals alternative opinions.

We are intended to ask provocative questions and reveals alternative opinions. The gallery also wants to provide the facilities for the open and free discussion, free form political agenda and stereotyped framing. We will organize the discussion groups including not only lawyers, politicians but also death row inmates who will be contacted via internet. Of course we are not going to focus entirely on death penalty in USA: part of the exposition we be given to the exposition criticizing the atrocities of death penalty in many undemocratic regimes especially those who practice the cruel and unusual punishments or carry out death sentence for political cases, for minor crimes or execute members of the minority groups.. We will also display the photo and video materials uncovering the extra juridical executions in the country’s who officially abolished death penalty for propagandist reasons, but are secretly killing the political opponents and undesirables.
