The Next Step
Every Saturday, we were allowing expats and locals to come along and share their ideas about using creativity to help people get together. We decided to set up best of those ideas in our venue. The melting pots of ideas lead us to many interesting projects, which are about the start in the gallery during the second stage of BreXpat. We have decided to set a poetry evenings led by Flemish poet Philip Meersman; he is trying to use natural sounds instead of words so he can reach a wider audience; we are planning play exiting and innovative game with a specially shaped artwork made by French expat artist François Bihorel, and we are planning to set a simultaneous chess display together with a management of the “Talmo bar” (one of our partners, located at the St. Gery area). Those are only a few examples of creative and innovative ideas which we have picked during our weekly meetings. Gallery Gabrichidze will help to realise them at BreXpat 2 with support of King Baudouin Foundation.
The Next Step Two
At spring 2008 we are planning to launch the second stage of our weekly workshop. The success of the weekly creative workshops for expats encouraged us to continue these productive events every Saturday. In a next stage of the project Gallery Gabrichidze shall be not only the venue for a cultural exchange between different groups, but also a place where many existing problems will be addressed and solutions shall be offered.
During our weekly workshops we have found out about many bureaucratic obstacles which creative expats are facing while trying to deal with immigration rules. We have a decided to set up special lectures and free of charge consultancies for creative expats helping them to navigate in the whole web of immigration related rules. We hope to use the help of our partner organisations, the Lexial Advocaten in this event.
Community events
Many expats have complained that luck of the exiting community events which would better present local cultural aspects to foreigners or, vise versa, would present the customs of different countries to the local public is one of the significant obstacles to integration. Together with our major partner, Expatica, the leading database for expats in Europe, we have decided to make a step in that direction and set various meet-ins and community events in the creative gallery environment; suggestions included a “speed date”, celebrating hollydays from different corners of the world and Whiskey Tasting nights organised by expatica.com . Please visit our website later for details.
Open Mic
Our gallery is running an open Mick. Nights monthly, we allow the gigs on English, French or Flemish making sure that language is no longer a barrier in communication
Since February we are panning launching our Open Mic nights in a new format; each open Mic will be co-hosted by Flemish, Wallon or expat poet who will lead the concept of the night. We are planning to invite the employees and interns of major political organisations and NGO to host our open Mic’s, so we can to ensure that our events will be not only entertaining, but also socially charged. This will not only help to develop artistic act or try out by the new talent in safe and supportive atmosphere, but will also insure that dispute informal fun atmosphere our open Mics will also address the important issues of today, especially social aspects of expat-local relations
supporting gallery environment and to find new friends in Brussels artistic community free of charge.
Gallery Gabrichidze invites creative foreigners and members of local community (both Flemish and French speaking) to communicate using universal language of art. Visitors are now not only purchasing the artwork in our venue, but becoming participants in the process of creation. The first artwork of this project is already being made in our gallery by Tom de Boeck. .
Please feel free to visit us and talk about creating your artworks every day from Monday to Friday from 12 pm till 7 pm, or call 0475506266 for the appointment.

(Anti) Death Penalty - Art of the Dead and the Living
Lethal injection, electrocution, hanging, firing squad, gas chamber - by those methods about 6.000 persons were executed only in 2006. Is death penalty the ultimate cruel, inhuman and shameful punishment or the effective way to prevent the crime? This is the focus of the project “(Anti) Death Penalty - Art of the Dead and the Living”.

Fear and perjudice
According to the “Economist" magazine the removal of immigration restrictions worldwide would increase the global economical growth twice and might eventually solve the problems of unemployment, hunger, extreme poverty and economical crisis. Yet such radical measure seems utopian because of the problems of cultural integration, tolerance to the strangers, xenophobia and cultural difference. All those are significant obstacles to the sucessful migration.

Alternative reality: Soviet-American relations in 21 century
“What would today’s world look like, if Cold War had never ended, if Soviet Union had never collapsed and Berlin Wall had never fallen down?” - those are the questions, which the Project “Alternative Reality” asks. This exhibition opens up the imaginary world of 21st century, where the Iron Curtain is still dividing globe and the struggle between contrasting ideologies and superpowers is still going on.
We hope that us project will serve a warning against worring tendencies in global politics.
